PALM BEACH H O U S E
Palm Beach House is a contemporary family residence designed for a young couple embarking on their first home build together. Conceived as a place of retreat, the home transforms a long, narrow suburban site into a sequence of spaces that balance privacy with openness, creating an environment that feels generous, light-filled and intimately connected to its location.
Rather than revealing itself immediately to the street, the home unfolds through a carefully choreographed sequence of gardens, thresholds and framed views. Set back behind a landscaped forecourt, the architecture establishes a gradual transition from the public edge of the site into the privacy of the home, creating a sense of retreat long before stepping through the front door.
Responding to the proportions of the site, the planning is shaped by permeability. Supporting spaces are consolidated along the southern boundary, allowing the kitchen, dining and living areas to occupy the full width of the home. Long sightlines, abundant natural light and prevailing breezes move freely through the interior, while generous openings dissolve the threshold between inside and out, creating a home that feels remarkably expansive despite its suburban setting.
Defined by a restrained palette of white brick, weatherboard, natural stone and timber, the home offers a contemporary interpretation of Australian coastal architecture. Honest materials, generous proportions and carefully framed outlooks create interiors that feel calm, enduring and quietly refined.
At its heart, the kitchen and living spaces become the social focus of the home, maintaining a constant relationship with the gardens, outdoor terrace and swimming pool beyond. As natural light moves through the interior throughout the day, the changing qualities of space, material and planting enrich the experience of living, creating a home that feels open, restorative and deeply private.
